Question by carpetdistress: How do I repair a 2 inch hole in the center of my carpet?
The carpet is not wall to wall. I have extra piece of the same carpet to use for the repair. I still have the carpet backing in place so I have tried to glue another small piece of carpet on top of the backing in it’s place but it doesn’t stay. When I vacuum the carpet fibers get sucked up a little at a time. Can anyone advise me of the proper way to repair this problem?

Oh Darling, claim on your insurance, you DO have insurance don’t you, it would be silly not to.
Buy a new one?
Or turn to a proffesional
or buy a rug that covers it
better go and get a new one
need to use a stronger glue and leave it for longer. you could also put a table or chair in such a way as you will not go over the repaired section.
you were on the right track, the piece you cut out to plug the gap, use serious glue to stick it to a piece of thick cardboard a circle of it about 6 inches diameter then glue the cardboard to the underside of your good carpet, thats what i did and it worked
have you tried using a needle and sewing it into place? try it I think It will work. Be sure to use a large needle used for sewing rugs or upholstry.
double sided carpet tape. pro. carpet installers use a kind of tape with an iron–maybe rent one
You are better off cutting through the backing and patching the carpet. Here’s a good link for repair instructions. Also, check out sites such ad DIY or HGTV.

Try and find another place with the same carpet,(in a closet or behind a cabinet or someplace) then cut out a square patch of the damaged area and a matching square of the hidden spot ,you can use double sided tape to keep the patch down,It won’t be perfect but will be very close.Good luck
Hi, I had this same problem.. My grandfather told me to cut a peice of carpet about 1/8th of an inch bigger around than the hole, then he says if you use the same glue the carpet guys use and wedge it into the hole, you should be able to make it look pretty flush. but you cant vacuum it until the glue is really really dry. I used superglue and it worked not the carpet guy stuff….and the carpet fibers getting sucked up is probably from where the outside of the whole is and the outside of where you cut the previous peice… using some glue around the outer edge of the piece your using to replace it may help keep the fabric from getting sucked up. Hope this helps some. :0 good luck.
Cut the piece of the extra carpet you have ,then place shopping bag under the hole and put small quantity of glue with brush under the carpet to stick the bag with the old portion and glue for the patch, now place the cut piece on the hole and press it with some weight for at least 12 hours and it will stay there and will be patched.Use the glue used for bonding vinyl tiles to the floor
cut the hole thorugh the backing otherwise the new piece will be too high. Hot glue the existing carpet to the padding Do not use too much glue or it will clump the carpet fibers together and make a bigger mess. Then glue the piece to the padding using the same hot glue gun. After a couple of minutes you can use a scissors to trim the carpet patch level.
Put a vase on the area, then vacum around it.
you must cut out the carpet all the way through the backing even if you have to cut it bigger then take the exact same size piece including backing and glue in place.after it has dried take your hand and move the fibers back and forth both directions until it blends in better.they usually use a skate that has moving metal bristles that comb the carpet into place .but you should be able to do this by hand on such a small place.don’t expect it to look perfect .but after i sits and is vacuumed it wont be as quite as noticeable.
don’t be cheap b-i-t-c-h get a new one
My dear friend all the living and non living things has their predetermined life.
It is a case of aging and you should buy a new Carpet.
Go buy a new and fresh Carpet, not a second hand.
