For decent carpet with good pad, figure about $ 3 per square foot (installed price). (cheap carpet $ 2-2.50, high end cpt $ 4)
Laminate comes in many different prices, based on quality. Expect to spend $ 4.50-5.50 for decent laminate, as low as $ 3 for the cheap stuff.
Buy the best you can afford, you really get what you pay for ESPECIALLY in Laminate. PLEASE, for your own sake, make sure you put in tile landings at the doorways to preserve the life of your laminate floors.
Laminate on the stairs is a BAD idea, go with carpet there.
What do you think? Answer below!
I think I paid like $ 3.25 or $ 3.75 sq. ft. for my high-end laminate. You can tell it’s fake but is the best looking laminate I could find. It came with individual beveled planks, 3 sizes, to make it look more like hardwood. It was for my basement family room. I would have gotten hardwood, but I didn’t want to pay to install a sub-floor.
For resale value, I’d recommend going with real hardwood. It looks so nice and is quick to clean with a Swiffer Vac. It sells around $ 3 sq. ft. and up.
As a girl that sells it here in Michigan I can tell you:
Carpet ranges from $ .89 sq. foot up to and in excess of $ 6.00-$ 7.00 depending on materials, stain Resistance, weights and designs.
Padding comes in a few forms. We only use REBOND pad and have since the beginning. It’s tops as far as life of the carpet guarantees and price point. Our current price is $ .50 sq. foot
And last but not least…
Laminate: We sell a few kinds, all of which have websites up for information as well as colors and warranties (be sure to research this purchase). Our floors are selling for $ .40 sq. foot
