Question by Sweet n Sour: How much would it cost to replace carpet with laminate flooring?
350 sq ft living room – what’s a fair price to be charged to include carpet removal, labor laminate (which is the cheapest flooring) installation? I’m getting lots of varrying quotes! It’s for a rental in Los Angeles. How about if I were to replace it with high-grade, nice carpet? Current one is nice but really damaged from tennant.

Cost of the flooring is about $ 2 a square foot and up, plus underlayment and molding (about $ 100). Installation shouldn’t be more than $ 2 a square foot. So, starting around $ 4 a square foot + $ 100, or about $ 1500. If you have to remove the old carpet, you can do that yourself (disposing of it is another matter – can you say “apartment building dumpster”?). Otherwise, figure a couple hundred more for that.

Decent grade carpet runs about $ 40 a square yard (9 square feet), plus a couple hundred for installation and pad. So, you’re looking at about $ 1700. Removal of the old carpeting should be included.

How do you get dried, sticky, black carpet foam glue off hardwood flooring?

Question by Jen D: How do you get dried, sticky, black carpet foam glue off hardwood flooring?
I just ripped up a carpet in my new apartment. Underneath the carpet foam was hardwood flooring which was covered in sticky black gooey stuff. It seemed like old glue. I was able to get it up by rubbing it with my finger, but who wants to do that to the entire floor?!? When I tried wetting it, it just turned more sticky….it was like it was water resistant or something! Any suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is using a deck brush some turpentine and scrub the floor the hard way.
Eventually it will get rid of the glue.

I have a small and thin carpet in my room and I have wood flooring. I’m tired of adjusting my carpet 50 times a day. How do I keep it from moving? Also, I don’t feel like buying anything from a store so if I can use household items that would be great.

well i think you are going to have to buy something from the store…they have those grip pads you put under them and they do not allow the carpet to move..we have a huge rug in our living room and the carpet gripper is the same size..the rug hasnt move at all its been down about two months..you can get them at lowes they come in many sizes..

Need flooring advice to cover concrete.?

Question by imwright: Need flooring advice to cover concrete.?
We have taken in our garage as a large family room and building another garage. The floor is concrete painted with epoxy. It will be a high traffic area so I do not want carpet. I don’t really want tile but have not ruled it out completely. I am concerned about the durability of genuine hard woods but don’t care for the look of some of the laminate flooring. We were thinking engineered hardwood but then have heard mixed reviews about putting down floating vs glue down and a lot of the nice laminates and engineered hardwoods cost as much as the real deal. What is the best thing for over sealed concrete that can take the traffic?
The epoxy should prevent moisture from coming up through the concrete.

you can get fake timber flooring that looks like it’s real and you just stick it down on the concrete.stick downs are alot better, i have them in a high traffic area. and to wash them just normal hot water with detergent & any mop.
