How to remove shattered glass from shag carpet?

Question by Mary V: How to remove shattered glass from shag carpet?
HELP!!! In the process of exchanging and storing the full storm door glass for the screen in prep for the warm weather — accidentally hit the door frame and it has shattered all over the shag carpeting and steps — scooped up what we could, vacuumed up lots — but of course, like sand — you never seem to be able to get it all? Any suggestions (other than eventually having to replace the carpet). We have pitched the Bissell — though it was a trooper — but didn’t want to take a chance of spreading glass throughout the rest of the house.

How do you get stains from laundry detergent out of carpet?

Question by jwelsh1021: How do you get stains from laundry detergent out of carpet?
My children got into the laundry detergent. It was liquid Tide Coldwater Fresh Scent. It was blue.
I used a carpet cleaner with plain water over and over. Then I used carpet soap but I still got bluish stains.
The carpet is tan. I’m pretty sure its the cheap stuff. It was here when I got here.
If you know how to get the stains out please tell me.

How to remove an old coffee stain from carpet?

Best answer:

Answer by Julie
The professionals should have removed this stain, can you call them back and request that they do so? If not then try the oxy clean stain remover for carpets, spray the stain area, let it sit for 5 minutes or so and then blot it with a damp cloth until all traces of stain are gone. If the stain is really bad, you may have to repeat the procedure.

What is the best way to remove carpet tape from oak hardwood floors?

Question by Redsfan: What is the best way to remove carpet tape from oak hardwood floors?
I recently pulled up some carpet in my home and underneath every step their was carpet tape on the hardwood. I do not want to tear up the wood/urethyne

Best answer:

Answer by Ice
You gotta tear it up some way and there is no real way to do it without messing up the floor. If you use any chemical such as goof off or goo be gone then you will definitely take the finish off. Unfortunately, your going to have to rip the tape up and then hope for the best and if not then you just have to re finish the floor

How do i transition from a new tile floor to an existing carpet floor?

Question by : How do i transition from a new tile floor to an existing carpet floor?
I’m going to install a tile floor in our kitchen, and will have to transition to an exisiting carpet floor. Currently the kitchen has linoleum, and where the carpet meets, there is a thin metal z-bar type of plate. When i install the new tile, will i have to pull the carpet up and attach a new z-bar type of plate? Or will i be able to pull the existing z-bar up and put something else down without pulling the carpet up?

Best answer:

Answer by Holden McGroin
Use regular tack strip. You will have to remove the existing strip and lift the carpet to install the new tack strip. Its easy and inexpensive.

An advert for Stoddard Glenmore carpets from the December 1964 Ideal Home magazine.

The copy includes:
"The deep luxury of its pure wool pile and the enchanting designs say you are people of taste, people of discernment too…"

My take on it:
"With carpets like these, who needs ashtrays?"

What is an easy way to remove carpet from a wood floor?

Question by Tara P: What is an easy way to remove carpet from a wood floor?
I am wanting to remove a really old carpet from a floor that has wood underneath. The wood is in OK shape and I would like to not have to refinish it right now. The carpet is coming up fine but the backing is still glued to the floor. Does anyone have any suggestions to remove it other than lots of scraping.

Best answer:

Answer by otter7
Wow. When I did it, I just cut and tore, but your’s may need more help. Mine was glued to the floor on the edges as well. You may be able to add water to it and loosen the glue, but I did lots of scraping. Good luck on your project.

How to remove candle wax from carpet?

Question by Reshmi P: How to remove candle wax from carpet?
Somehow molten candle wax got dropped in my carpet and its really hard now. How can i remove it without destroying my carpet?

Best answer:

Answer by Annie
The first thing you need to do is remove as much of the hardened wax as you can. A butter or putty knife works well for this but you can use anything with a dull blade. Scrape up what you can and vacuum the debris. Next place a clean cloth, paper bag or paper towel over the wax. Run a warm iron over the cloth until the wax melts. A hot hair dryer can also be used. Once the wax is melted, it should adhere to the cloth. Lift the cloth and the wax should lift with it.

It should be noted that if the wax is colored, it may stain your carpet. Anytime you apply heat to a stain, it causes the stain to lock into the fibers leaving you with a permanent reminder of your clumsiness. It’s for this reason you should use a warm iron only. You also don’t want to use newspaper or any kind of paper with words or pictures on it unless you want the image to be transferred to your carpet.
