Question by santa monica s: vacuums – best canister vacuum for pet hair?
I’m going crazy looking for a new vacuum. just when something sounds great, i read the negative 1 star reviews on amazon and get scared. i need a CANISTER vacuum then can really pick up LOTS OF PET HAIR w/out me having to take the roller apart after every cleaning to remove the hair. don’t want to spend more than $ 300. only have CARPETS. any reccomendations, appreciated, thanks!

In the meantime you can go the the “Good Housekeeping Lab site ” & try and look up what they say.
I’d also try the Consumers’ Union (Consumer magazine’s site) ; they also do testing.
Then, please post here which one is best for all of us pet lovers?

Question by Ivy has Twin Boys!: What do you think of your robot vacuum?
Anyone out there own a robot vacuum? I’m looking into getting one, but they all say they die quickly. Anyone have one that lasted? What brand to get? I see lots of Roomba’s but I know there are now generics. Anyone have a generic?
All the real comparisons are ads for Roomba. I don’t see real comparisons with generics. And the reviews I see are way too wordy, without really saying anything! I want to know, does it work, will it work, best bang for the buck for carpet and how long will it work for? How much upkeep do I need to do?

Yes bought my first one 3 yrs ago. It finally died and just bought a new and better model last month.
Live on a dirt road and the mud room needs daily vacuuming. Roomba picks up gravel, animal hair moves from tile floor to area run and even gets the scatter mats clean. I would highly recommend it.
Only upkeep is emptying the dirt bucket and clearing the filter
after each use

I have a one-year old and lots of crumbs on my floor that our vacuum won’t pick up. We currently have a bag less Bissell and I hate it. We’ve replaced all the filters and cleaned it but it still hardly picks up a thing. It leaves little hair balls on our carpet and kicks dust back in the air. I have to open the windows every time I vacuum so we can breathe!
We’re looking to get a new vacuum and I am interested in any brand and reviews you can recommend. My parents have had an Electrolux for 10+ years and it works great. However, the price tag ($ 500) is a little much for me. I’d also rather not go bag less again. Any suggestions?
We are actually renting right now, so Central vacuum isn’t an option. Though it would be nice!

If you own your home and can afford it, I highly recommend installing a central vacuum. The bags rarely need changing, it makes a huge difference as far as allergies, and they can even install floor vents where you can sweep crumbs into them.
Might feel like a big investment, but after 13 years ours works as well as new.

So our vac broke and we need a new one. My husband and I were talking about just getting a cheap $ 60 one from Walmart. Like a Dirt Devil or something. Well, I got $ 100 extra on my paycheck this week so I thought that I would buy the Shark Lift Away instead. It’s $ 169.99 plus tax. It has awesome reviews. A lot of ppl seem to like it as much as a Dyson too. It isn’t supposed to lose suction. Well, I ordered it on Walmart’s online thing to pickup at the store tonight. My husband wasn’t too happy when he found out. He thinks it’s a waste of money. And why can’t we just get the $ 60 one. Because he thinks our last one, which was a Eureka Optimus, worked great at picking up the dirt (I personally think that if he saw the Shark, he’d realize that the Optimus was crap). So now I am feeling guilty for spending nearly 3 times the original plan. I am thinking about returning it when I pick it up and just buying the stupid cheapo one that he thinks we should get just so I don’t have to hear how I got a nice check and then blew the extra and then some right away. I should add that we live in about 1000 square feet only, mostly carpet, with 2 stair cases. If that helps any. We have a ton of dust and fur from our pet chinchilla always flying around. My hope is this Shark will help with the dust and fur problem and pick more of it up and not blow anything around as it actually vacuums stuff up.

there are 3 levels of vacs
cheap (poor quality and you’ll need a new one soon)
medium $ 150-$ 200 (not bad but nothing like the better ones)
expensive like Dyson or Electrolux (excellent and will outlast the others by a mile)
it pays to buy the best you can afford

I have a bagless cheap Shark vacuum that doesn’t work at all… so for the past months i’ve just been sweeping my carpet with a broom (which is really hard) so I finally have extra money to get a new vacuum. I have been reading a bunch of reviews (since I cant afford to buy a bad one) but now i’m wondering if a bagless or bagged vacuum is better? Please help me out… i have no experience is buying vacuums. I have a budget of $ 100…. if you have an inexpensive vacuum let me know how its worked out for you… thank you so much!

I’ve had both- the bagless seem to have more problems.If you get one with bags, just make sure to change the bags when they are full to the full line-and pick up coins,etc before you vacuum-it’ll last longer. You really have to baby the cheaper ones and you don’t get much for $ 100!

Question by : Any suggestion regards to using my Hoover Vacuum machine?
I bout it for hard floor. I have both tile and laminate wood. I read many good reviews about this product. Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright. It works great with a lot of suction power on carpet, but when I use it on my hard floor, sand / small particles get spitted out behind I can literally feel it is hitting in my feet. Any suggestion?
2) When I operate it generate dusty dumpy smells. I just bought this machine back in November and probably used it less than five times. I used it for dust / sand / floor only. I also just changed a back using Allergy Filter -HEPA bag).

The spinning brush is the problem. The velocity is throwing the hard particles before the vacuum can suck them up.
Check to see if there is a way to vacuum without making the brush spin.
Personally, I would use a microfiber dust mop rather then a vacuum on wood or laminate floors.

We have just spent a wad of money on a professional carpet cleaner. He has advised us to buy a Sebo vacumm cleaner for removing pet hairs which he said were wound into the carpet fibres. Reading about it I find it has problems. I discovered an LG LUV300B upright bagless which seemed to be just what I needed and then found it was only available in the US. Has anyone advice on how to deal with pet hairs with a vacuum that will work and doesn’t have problems? Spent 3 hours already reading reviews and still confused.

We have a Dyson that we have used for a year and love. It’s called the Dyson animal because it comes with an attachment for the hose that gets pet hair off of couches, chairs, curtains etc. Works very well.
If you can get it where you are, buy it. It’s kinda pricy but worth it. It is an upright that does’nt need any bags or anything else you have to buy.

I have read some reviews on Dyson DC25, and everyone seems to like it. But I would really like someone w/ my same situation to tell me what you think. My yellow lab sheds very bad, and his hair seems to actually get in the carpet threads. I own a Oreck at the moment and when I am done vacuuming, i get on my hands and knees and see tons of hair still stuck in the capet. I actually have to scrap the floor w/ my hands for the hair to come out. Can someone w/ a DC25 and a Lab tell me if this vaccum can pull hair out from the carpet that is wedged in the threads. Thanks

I do not own a Dyson but I have used them from time to time and did not like them all that much.
Dog hairs are terribly difficult to vacuum up , I will often use a stiff broom rather than a vac. Also try brushing the dog outside from time to time to get rid of the loose hair that would otherwise fall off inside or get rid of the carpets and change to hard floors in areas that the dog spends time.

My wife and I are looking for the best vacuum for our house.
Our first floor does not have any carpeted surfaces.
Our starway to the second floor has a carpeted runner up the center, and the rooms upstairs are carpeted as well.
We need something that s going to be portable enough to carry and vacuum the stairway, as well as hold up and clean our new carpet.
The carpet is longer, but not a shag carpet, and a neutral tan color.
We are considering getting an American Bulldog in December, and want to make sure we get the proper vacuum for our house.
I have not looked up any reviews on any vacuums at this time.
