Question by R S: My contractor broke up and removed part of my floor that is abestos then vinyl plank no subfloor…SAFE???
all floors blend in small 1 bd house. Now uneven edges. Used trafficmaster allure planks over floor and double sided tape. I was in the dust of this right after getting out of the hospital..Many other problems.This is a City of St Petersburg Fl. gov. funded loan and they are threatening me with cancelling the loan because I asked for 1 week to do tests and inspections of other problems. Hurricane windows installed in soft framework etc.Time is of the essence.
He told me himself the city had him stop removing my floor do to it being asbestos. I have testing being done right now at a out of area lab since the City has already threatened me with cancelling my loan.

There is no way this is safe. get out of the house asap and call him back. That stuff is toxic city. Your house should have been encased in a plastic sheeting bubble before anything was removed. The waste should have been transported to a specialist disposal centre and then all traces of asbestos needed to be removed from the environment before any people moved back in.
Check out the laws in your state on asbestos removal. I know that in Australia under pour laws he would be liable for huge fines and even a loss of his icense to remove asbestos if he had done this. You will need to check your legal position but your health position is unequivocal.This is a hazard to you and anyone else who enters the house.

I have carpet now, when I pull it up, the sub flooring look like wood underneath the carpet, and there is no problem with it. Do I need any other prep for the sub flooring, or I can just install vinyl over it. Btw, I’m going to use Allure trafficmaster vinyl flooring

I have a small bathroom in which I plan to install TrafficMaster self adhesive vinyl tile. There is existing vinyl coverning in the room (the kind that comes rolled up like carpet). Does this need to be removed, or can I just install my tiles over it? Is it best to remove the base trim in the bathroom as well?

I’ve seen them use the sticky tiles over linoleum on ‘Designed to Sell’ on HGTV. but The vinyl can’t have any tears, rips, or holes in it or it will eventullay poke through the new stuff. Wash it good, rinse and make sure it is good and dry. Yes it’s better to take the baseboards off because if you can’t get a good fit up against the wall, it will hide any flaws and look neater.

Question by Brian: Does anyone have experience with using TrafficMaster vinyl plank flooring by Allure?
I am definitely not what you would call a “handy” person. I have never really done anything like this before but from watching videos on YouTube and what not it seemed like a simple task to put down this flooring. But so far it has caused me a lot of problems. First off I need to cut some of the pieces a certain width. I have a razor and a T-Square to do this. First problem is when I am cutting the T-Square always moves because the bottom of the vinyl is very slick and it constantly slides. I’ve even had someone help me hold it and it still slides, so my cuts are not straight and I wind up ruining the plank by cutting it wrong. Is there a way I can make this easier? Another problem is when I do cut it you are supposed to then simply bend it for it to break. But when you do this you are left with rough uneven sides. Again, is there something I can do to fix this? Lastly how is the flooring actually staying in place? When I finally do finish it I just don’t see what is keeping the floor from moving and shifting all over the place. Yeah, the boards will all be glued together but there is nothing actually holding them to the floor. Will this be a problem? Is there anything I can do? Thanks for the help. Like I said, I don’t know anything about this stuff and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used a good utility knife. As for the square moving…put one knee on one end of it and a hand down on the other end of it close to the plank and lean (get on the floor on your hands and knees) into the square or whatever you want to use. Push down on the utility knife and make a couple of cuts if you have to, to slice halfway through the flooring. Then you can break it evenly. You will have to change the blade when dull or you will have problems. Sounds like your blade needs to be changed. As for the floor..it will stay in place through weight..it is a floating floor (same idea as laminate floating floors). This stuff is heavy. I layed this flooring throughout half a basement without problems and I do not do floors. I cut the planking on a non slip surface, so I didn’t have the sliding problems. Just be sure to follow the spacing directions on the box…for around the edges of the room.

I just laid new Trafficmaster allure vinyl plank flooring. It seems that the pieces are not quite perfect and it now has very small gaps between a few of the tiles. What can I use to fill in those gaps so dirt doesn’t get is there and create unsightly black lines.

You can try to find a caulk to match. Dap makes a product called Alex Plus, which is an acrylic latex caulk with silicone. It is available in a variety of colors, including clear. Hope this helps.
